Question of: The Delivery of Humanitarian Aid to Civilians in Areas Affected by Natural Disasters

Submitted by: Netherlands

Takes into account the urgency of delivering the aid needed in disaster stricken areas as quickly as possible,

Understands the concerns of countries currently being urged to use their military forces to deliver humanitarian aid,

Deeply regretting that there is currently no drill that is universally accepted as the ‘Humanitarian Aid Delivery Policy’,

Noting that although aid can now be flown in rapidly, regional belief systems, cultural backgrounds and even language seemed to have been omitted as a source of concern,

Recognises the high amount of disorganisation and lack of clarity surrounding the topic of aid delivery,

  1. Encourages all countries to set up a body within their military forces designed to deliver humanitarian aid.
  2. Demands that extra support and precautions are put in place surrounding airports and airfields, in order to ensure ease when landing delivery planes,
  3. Calls for a body to be set up to focus on delivering specific aid for each situation, location, and natural disaster in order to increase efficiency and reduce waste,
  4. Suggests that general guidelines are put in place that are universally accepted as a method(s) of delivering aid to reduce the lack of clarity surrounding the topic.
